On Nut is the Sukhumvit-line neighbourhood with the widest choice on a small budget: many recent condos, complete shopping and the BTS to reach the centre. It is the best-represented area in our catalogue, with one-bedroom units from 13,000 THB a month and a large family house.
1.Atmosphere: the sweet spot of the Sukhumvit line
On Nut is centred on the BTS station of the same name, at Sukhumvit Soi 77 (On Nut Road) and Soi 50. Long seen as "far out", the area has developed a lot: recent condos have multiplied along On Nut Road and nearby side streets, with pools and gyms at rents well below those downtown.
The atmosphere is residential and local: markets, small restaurants and everyday shops, with a mix of Thai residents, young professionals and budget-conscious expats.
Who is it for?
- young professionals and students looking for the best value;
- people working along the Sukhumvit line who accept a slightly longer commute;
- families who want a house with a garden within reasonable reach of the centre, in the residential villages further east.
2.Getting around
BTS On Nut (Sukhumvit line) comes after Phra Khanong. Allow roughly:
- 4 minutes to Phra Khanong and 6 to 8 minutes to Thong Lo;
- 12 to 15 minutes to Asok, for the MRT;
- around 25 to 30 minutes to Siam.
Further east, the MRT Yellow Line (monorail) runs along Srinakharin Road, including Si Nut station: it connects to Lat Phrao in the north and Samrong in the south. For Suvarnabhumi airport, a taxi via the expressway is the simplest option from On Nut.
3.Daily life
- a large Lotus's hypermarket and several supermarkets around the station;
- local markets and plenty of street food;
- community malls and gyms;
- clinics and pharmacies; Sukhumvit's large private hospitals are reachable by BTS or taxi.
4.Where to look in the area
- Within 500 m of the station: the most sought-after buildings, such as Aspire Onnut Station or The Link Sukhumvit 50.
- On Nut Road (Sukhumvit 77): very long, with many condos; beyond 700 to 800 m, plan on a motorbike taxi or shuttle.
- Sukhumvit 50 and 48: across the main road, several quieter complexes.
- Towards Srinakharin: residential villages and houses with gardens, near the Yellow Line.
5.Strengths and things to watch
Strengths
- some of the lowest rents on the Sukhumvit line for recent condos;
- a very wide choice, from small studios to family houses;
- complete shopping around the station.
Things to watch
- a longer commute downtown (about half an hour to Siam);
- long streets: distance to the BTS varies a lot;
- occasional flooding of some streets during heavy rain, worth checking for a house.
