In short

Thong Lo is one of Sukhumvit's liveliest neighbourhoods: restaurants, cafés, bars and recent condos around Soi 55. It suits professionals and couples who want everything within walking distance, with the BTS to reach the centre. Rents are among the highest in our catalogue, but the choice is wide, from studios to large two-bedroom units.

1.Atmosphere: a neighbourhood that lives from morning to night

Thong Lo is, first of all, a street: Sukhumvit Soi 55, which starts at BTS Thong Lo and runs north for several kilometres. On either side, the small side streets (the "soi") are home to recent condos, older houses, specialty cafés, restaurants of every cuisine and a well-known nightlife.

The area attracts many professionals, Thai and foreign alike, and a large Japanese community that extends to Phrom Phong. The atmosphere is urban and polished: people come here for everyday quality of life, not for complete quiet.

Who is it for?

  • professionals working along the Sukhumvit line or in Asok;
  • couples who like going out and doing everything on foot;
  • single people looking for a well-located first home, with studios available on a reasonable budget.

Families with young children can live here too, especially in quieter side streets, but Phrom Phong or Ekkamai often offer more space for a similar budget.

2.Getting around

BTS Thong Lo (Sukhumvit line) is the neighbourhood's anchor. Allow roughly:

  • 2 to 3 minutes to Phrom Phong, one stop away;
  • about ten minutes to Asok, where you can change to the MRT Blue Line;
  • a little under 20 minutes to Siam, the city's shopping heart.

Soi 55 is long: a home near the top of the street can be more than a 15-minute walk from the BTS. Many residents then use the motorbike taxis (orange vests) waiting at the entrance of each soi, or ride-hailing apps. At rush hour, traffic on Thong Lo and Sukhumvit is heavy, so being close to the BTS really changes daily life.

3.Daily life

Thong Lo has almost everything you need without leaving the area:

  • supermarkets, including several stores focused on imported products;
  • small community malls along Soi 55;
  • gyms, yoga studios and clinics;
  • Samitivej Sukhumvit, a private hospital well known to expats, close by (Soi 49).

The large Emporium and EmQuartier malls are one stop away at Phrom Phong. Benjasiri Park, next to Emporium, is the nearest green space for a run or a walk.

4.Where to look in the area

Thong Lo reads like a long street split into three sections:

  • the lower part of Soi 55, between Sukhumvit Road and the first few hundred metres: the most convenient section, a few minutes' walk from the BTS, with the highest rents;
  • the middle of the street, around the small malls and restaurants: very lively, ideal if you like going out, a little further from the BTS;
  • upper Thong Lo, towards the north: more residential, often more spacious for the same budget, but you will rely on motorbike taxis or ride-hailing to reach the train.

Parallel streets, such as Sukhumvit 53 or Soi 36 to 38 on the other side of the main road, also have good addresses, often slightly cheaper while staying close to the station.

5.Strengths and things to watch

Strengths

  • one of Bangkok's richest choices of restaurants, cafés and services;
  • a wide range of recent condos with pools and gyms;
  • a BTS station right in the heart of the area.

Things to watch

  • high rents near the station;
  • heavy traffic on Soi 55 at rush hour;
  • evening noise on some streets: floor and orientation matter.

6.Budget: what our catalogue shows

As of 10 October 2026, our catalogue lists 10 properties in Thong Lo:

  • rent: from 16,000 THB a month for a studio of about 30 m² to 120,000 THB a month for a high-end 86 m² two-bedroom; most furnished one-bedroom units are between 17,900 and 45,000 THB a month;
  • sale: two properties, from 5.19 million THB for a 42 m² one-bedroom to 28.9 million THB for an 86 m² two-bedroom.

Distance to the BTS explains much of the difference: buildings less than 400 m from the station rent for noticeably more than those further up the street. Remember the security deposit and advance rent, which come on top of the first month.

7.Before a viewing: the questions to ask

In Thong Lo, three questions avoid most disappointments:

  • How many minutes' walk is the BTS really? Do the walk yourself, or ask us for a video of the route.
  • Evening noise: are there bars or restaurants at the foot of the building?
  • Charges and electricity: official rate or a rate set by the building?

8.Our listings in the area

We currently handle properties at Noble Remix Thonglor, with direct BTS access, Culture Thonglor, Quattro by Sansiri and 59 Heritage for larger units. You will find them below, with photos and terms.

Frequently asked questions

Is Thong Lo a noisy area?

Soi 55 and its surroundings are lively in the evening, especially at weekends. Side streets and higher floors are usually quieter: mention it in your search.

Can you live in Thong Lo without a car?

Yes, as long as you choose a home close to the BTS. For the upper part of Soi 55, motorbike taxis and ride-hailing apps easily fill the gap.

What budget should I plan for a one-bedroom in Thong Lo?

In our catalogue as of 10 October 2026, furnished one-bedroom units mostly rent for 17,900 to 45,000 THB a month, depending on size, building and distance to the BTS.

Is Thong Lo suitable for a family?

It is possible in quiet streets and larger units, but family-sized homes are pricier here. Compare with nearby Phrom Phong and Ekkamai, which often offer more space.
