1.Atmosphere: a shopping hub in eastern Bangkok
Bang Kapi is a district in the east of the city, centred on the junction of Lat Phrao, Ramkhamhaeng and Si Burapha roads. It is a long-established and very busy shopping hub, with large malls, markets and a big student population linked to nearby Ramkhamhaeng University.
The atmosphere is local and lively, far from expat areas: you live to the rhythm of everyday Bangkok, with prices to match.
Who is it for?
- students and young professionals on a tight budget;
- people working in eastern Bangkok;
- those who want to live in a Thai neighbourhood with every shop close at hand.
2.Getting around
MRT Bang Kapi is on the Yellow Line (monorail), which follows Lat Phrao Road and then Srinakharin Road. Allow roughly:
- about twenty minutes to Lat Phrao station, where you change to the MRT Blue Line;
- 35 to 45 minutes to Asok or Silom, including the change;
- to the south, the Yellow Line meets the BTS Sukhumvit line at Samrong.
The Saen Saep canal boat serves Bang Kapi: it takes you to Pratunam and the centre without traffic jams, as long as you live near a pier. An MRT Orange Line is also planned along Ramkhamhaeng Road.
3.Daily life
- large malls, including The Mall Bangkapi;
- many markets, street food and inexpensive shops;
- Ramkhamhaeng University and its student life;
- hospitals and clinics in the district.
4.Where to look in the area
- Along Lat Phrao Road, near the Yellow Line stations: recent, often compact condos, the most convenient.
- Around Ramkhamhaeng: many student residences, a very lively feel.
- Side streets further out: houses and small buildings, quieter, but you will rely on buses or motorbike taxis.
5.Strengths and things to watch
Strengths
- some of the lowest rents in our catalogue;
- large malls and markets on the spot;
- the Yellow Line, and the canal boat to reach the centre.
Things to watch
- a long commute to business districts, with a change;
- very heavy traffic at rush hour;

- Noise: Bang Kapi's main roads are very busy.
